Amnesty International: Armed groups’ crimes in al-Sheikh Maqsoud may amount to war crimes, chemical weapons may have been used

Beirut, SANA _ Amnesty International described the repeated random attacks on al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo city by the armed groups as a flagrant violation of the human life and may amount to war crimes.

Armed groups surrounding al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo city have repeatedly carried out indiscriminate attacks that have struck civilian homes, streets, markets and mosques, killing and injuring civilians and displaying a shameful disregard for human life that may amount to a war crime, Amnesty said.

It added that chemical weapons may have been used by the armed groups in their attacks.

Takfiri terrorist organizations, over the past few weeks, targeted al-Sheikh Maqsoud and other residential neighborhoods in Aleppo city with hundreds of shells despite the cessation of hostilities agreement which was adopted by the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2268 leaving dozens killed, mostly children and women.

The attacks have displayed a shameful disregard for human life, which may amount to war crimes, the advocacy group’s deputy Middle East director Magdalena Mughrabi said.

Amnesty mentioned that one of doctors who treated injuries said that he treated civilians for symptoms including shortness of breath, numbness, red eyes and severe coughing fits that may be a result of chlorine gas attack.

He added that several of the victims reported seeing yellow smoke as missiles impacted.

Earlier, the Russian center for coordination and monitoring of the cessation of hostilities in Hemeimim confirmed the arrival of a number of trucks loaded with local hand-made military ammunition containing Chlorine gas coming from Idleb to the northern Aleppo countryside areas where Jabhat al-Nusra-affiliated terrorist groups
are positioned.
