European Commissioner calls for lifting sanctions on Syria

Brussels, SANA-The European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib , called on the European Union to suspend the sanctions imposed on Syria.

According to Anadolu News Agency, Habib referred in statements before the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels to her meeting with the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed al-Sharaa, on the 17th of this month, and said: “The meeting was very reassuring regarding ensuring inclusiveness and respect for human rights, especially women’s rights.”.

She stressed the need for the EU to suspend sanctions imposed on Syria in order to play an active role in building its future.
