Daraa, SANA-The great destruction and loss of life are considered the witness to the extent of the crime that Daraa city was subjected to by the former overthrown regime during about 8 years, extended by (2011 until 2018), this city was subjected to bombardment from various types of weapons, especially aircraft, tanks, rocket launchers, artillery and mortar shells.
The head of the city council, Eng Amin al-Omari, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the city’s population is about 200 thousand people, living in 25 residential neighborhoods, 20 of which were damaged during the war years while 5 neighborhoods were undamaged, adding the number of its buildings, which include the areas of Daraa Al-Balad, Daraa al-Mahatta, al-Sad Road, and the camps, is 12,072 Buildings.
He pointed out that the most of the residents of the al-Manshiya neighborhood in Daraa Al-Balad were completely displaced because it was subjected to violent bombing, and residents were also displaced from parts of the al-Sad road and the camps, noting that a number of families were returned in the recent period after the victory of the revolution, most of them from Jordan, and they began to regain their normal life cycle, amid several challenges related to services, and the poor general situation ..etc.
Regarding the commercial markets, al-Omari said that Daraa city has markets, including 5,000 different commercial activities, noting that the presence of the soldiers of the former regime, took all of the activities out of service, and some suffered major damage and others suffered partial damage, adding the city council has reactivated some of them by 20 percent, and there is an urgent need to activate the rest because it is the city’s main nerve and the destination of shoppers from the villages and towns of the governorate.
