Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry denounced the double standards of Western countries and their allies in UN Security Council after they refused to condemn the terrorist attack that targeted Military Academy in Homs, noting that it is evidence of these countries’ submission to Washington.
The Ministry said in a statement that Russia’s representatives in the UN Security Council called on other member countries of the UN to issue a general press statement condemning the terrorist act at Military Academy in Homs, and offering condolences to the victims’ families and the injured, pointing out that the initiative, which is considered a normal practice in the Council, was rejected by the Several delegations.
The Russian statement added that the Western Troika – the US, Britain and France – in addition to its allies – Albania, Malta and Japan – seemed incapable of condemning this terrorist act, adding: The United Nations Secretariat and its Secretary-General António Guterres and his envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, were content to express just of concern, without uttering to any word of consolation regarding what happened in Homs.
“As a result, the Security Council, called to address issues of international peace and security, was once again unable to express a unified reaction to what happened in Syria, noting that the devastating earthquake on February 6 also passed without a reaction”, Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement concluded.
The Ministry stressed that the double standard in stances on terrorism, protecting the civilian population, and respecting the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of countries based on their submission to Washington and its allies can only cause profound regret and disappointment.
