Documenting Maaloula antiquities and terrorists’ attacks on it viewed in event

Damascus, (SANA) – ‘Maaloula…the History, reality and prospects’ is an event that aims at shedding light on Maaloula’s civilization and what it represents for humanity historically and spiritually.

The event aims also at documenting the incidents of what happened in the archeological town due to the barbarian attacks of terrorists.

Culture Minister Lubana Mshawweh told journalists that efforts are concerted between the NGO’s inside and outside and the official bodies, clarifying “But that needs patience because this town is unique being built on rocky mountains and we should be careful while rehabilitating the damaged parts of it.”

The Minister added that the government budget has allocated sums for reconstructing Maaloula, pointing out that the rehabilitation work needs experts who are to carry out their work according to historical studies, documents and high international technical skills, “which requires high material and man expenses, thus the government started to conduct studies for making a fund for rehabilitating the town.”

The event is organized by General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums and under the patronage of Ministry of Culture and it was held at the Damascus-based National Museum.
