Moscow, SANA- Clashes between Russia and the West in space are possible if the latter continues to participate in the conflict in Ukraine and ignores Moscow’s warnings, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma for International Affairs, was quoted by Russian Today website as saying on his Telegram channel.
Slutsky said that commercial civilian satellites of Western countries assisting Ukraine could become legitimate targets.
“If Russian warnings are ignored, as they were with the demands for security guarantees almost a year ago, Western involvement in the Ukrainian conflict could provoke combat activity in low Earth orbit,” Slutsky said.
He considered the use of satellites by the West to support Ukraine a violation of international law.
“The Russian Foreign Ministry has information about the use by the West of low-orbit constellation vehicles to transmit data to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which grossly and cynically violates international agreements on peaceful space, including the agreement on principles for the use of outer space,” Slutsky added.
