New York, SANA-Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, said that the unjust geographical distribution of the Security Council, which won’t reflect today’s realities, exacerbates the polarization state in it, and pushes western member countries to recruit it in service of their political agendas.
“Some states are exploiting General Assembly’s resolution of No. 262/76 about the use of Veto at Security Council in a politicized way that won’t serve the declared goals to adopt it,” Ambassador Sabbagh said at UN General Assembly session.
He added that the International Origination’s member states acknowledge that the UN Security council should abide by its responsibilities in the framework of the Convention’s rules.
Sabbagh said that Syria has expressed its full agreement and appreciation with Russia’s stance in rejection of draft resolution that stipulated extending terms of resolution No. 2585 for an extra year without adding any improvements that meet the humanitarian needs of the Syrians.
