New York, SANA-Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin discussed with Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, the latest developments in Syria and ways to deliver humanitarian aid to it in a way that guarantees its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“These discussions came on the sidelines of the high-level political forum on sustainable development under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council.” The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The statement said that the meeting dealt with the current situation in and around Syria, with a focus on the tasks of intensifying and expanding international humanitarian assistance to all Syrians in need without discrimination, politicization and preconditions, with respecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the rules of international humanitarian law.
According to the statement, the two sides exchanged views on the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2642 issued on the 12th of the current month on extending the period for the delivery of humanitarian aid across the border.
