4th Meeting to follow up on Int’l Conference on Return of Refugees resumes activities

Damascus, SANA- The 4th Syrian-Russian Joint Meeting to follow up on the Int’l Conference on Return of Syrian Refugees and Displaced resumed its sessions on Wednesday.

The sessions are being held with the participation of representatives for Ministries of Information, Electricity, Social Affairs, Communications, Water Resources, Oil and Mineral Resources, Education and Meteorological Directorate, in coincide with distributing Russian humanitarian aid and equipment in several provinces.

Representatives of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor discussed with a delegation from the Russian Ministry of Justice ways to enhance and develop cooperation with regard to the work of non-governmental organizations operating on Syrian territory and the laws regulating their work.

The implementation of a memo of understanding sent by the Russian side to the Syrian side to put the necessary amendments to it before signing it also on the table.

In a press statement, Majd Mansour from the Department of International Relations at Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor said that the two sides reviewed the Russian and Syrian experiences regarding the work of non-governmental organizations and their active role on the ground, and the need to benefit from experiences of both sides in this context.

Deputy Director of the Department of International Relations at the Russian Ministry of Justice, Dmitry Bepkin, said that the meeting paves the way for exchanging experiences in legislation and laws related to non-governmental organizations in both countries.

Bepkin said “It is also necessary to review the experiences of the work of Syrian governmental organizations, especially during the difficult circumstances that Syria has gone through, in the hope of reaching fruitful results to deepen and strengthen cooperation.”

The 4th Syrian-Russian Joint Meeting to follow up on the Int’l Conference on Return of Syrian Refugees and Displaced started activities yesterday, as the first day included several meetings which brought together representatives of the relevant ministries and institutions from both the Syrian and Russian sides.

During the meetings, both sides discussed issues in the domains of media, economy, Awqaf (endowments), higher education, justice, interior, culture and trade, and they signed agreements in higher education field.
