Armenians hold Candlelight march in Aleppo in commemoration of 107th anniversary of Genocide

Aleppo, SANA- On the 107th anniversary of the genocide committed by the Ottomans, the Armenian denomination in Aleppo organized a candlelight march held by Syrian Youth Copper Band of the Armenian Cultural Club, leaders of Armenian Orthodox, Protestants and Catholics denomination, in addition to a crowd of people.

The march set off from the Armenian Orthodox Archdiocese in Villas neighborhood towards the Armenian Orthodox cemeteries, as the participators laid a wreath at the memorial of Armenian massacres’ martyrs and lighted the torch on the monument, meanwhile, the Syrian Youth Band performed national anthems and several songs.

The Armenian bishops said, “We demand our rights, recognition of the crime committed against the Armenians and compensation for all losses and mass destruction of churches and schools.”

They added that the Armenian people will not forget Syria‘s stance which received the convoys of genocide survivors.

The bishops stressed ‘we still live on this blessed land and defend every inch of it side by side with the army and its leadership’.

The Armenian genocide was the systematic destruction of the Armenian people and identity in the Ottoman era during World War I.
