Syria, International Organization for Migration discuss ways to activate its role in country

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Hussein Makhlouf, discussed on Thursday with a delegation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), headed by Eugenio Ambrosi, means of boosting cooperation between the two sides and reopening the organization’s office in Syria.

Minister Makhlouf said that priority for the Syrian government is to provide everything necessary for the return of the refugees to their homeland and create appropriate conditions to encourage their return, in reference to the measures taken in this context, foremost of which are the amnesty decrees.

Makhlouf pointed out to the negative impacts of unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries, in addition to the US and Turkish occupations which affect the daily aspects of life and basic services for the Syrian citizens.

For his part, Ambrosi expressed his aspiration to revive and activate cooperation between the (IOM) and the Syrian government within an atmosphere of mutual trust according to the priorities that are agreed upon.
