Damascus, SANA- Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, Foreign and Expatriates Minister, discussed on Wednesday, during a meeting with World Food Program (WFP) Representative and Country Director in Syria Corinne Fleischer and the accompanying delegation, means to enhance cooperation relations between the Syrian Government and the WFP.
Minister Mikdad hailed the standing cooperation between the government of the Syrian Arab Republic and the WFP and the efforts exerted by the program to deliver humanitarian aid to those in need.
He asserted the necessity to ensure the delivery of this aid, adhere to the principles of humanitarian work and to avoid the politicization practiced by some Western states in this framework.
Minister Mikdad also talked about the critical economic and living conditions which the Syrian people are passing through as a direct result of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on them by the US and some Western states, calling on the WFP and other humanitarian organizations operating in Syria to deal with transparency and to condemn these unethical measures which affect all the walks of daily life, especially the food and the basic services needed by the Syrian citizens.
Fleischer expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between the Syrian Government and the program, stressing that the program will do everything possible to strengthen this cooperation and to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need.
She also talked about the difficult conditions facing the region in general, and discussed the current work plans and the possibilities of expanding the work of the program in Syria during the coming months.
