Damascus, SANA – Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Faysal Mikdad, discussed on Thursday with Iraqi Minister of Displacement and Migration, Ivan Faeq Jabro, means of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries and situation of the displaced in both states.
Mikdad affirmed the importance of strengthening relations and deepening cooperation between the two brotherly countries in all fields.
” Syria welcomes the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland and takes measures and facilities that help create conditions to ensure a voluntary and safe return and decent living conditions for the returnees,” Mikdad said.
He added that some Western countries deal with this file in politicized manner and continues to impose unilateral coercive measures and don’t encourage refugees to return to their country under void pretexts.
For her part, the Iraqi Minister stressed the importance of relations between two sides, whether at the governmental or the public level.
She expressed Iraq’s willingness to cooperate with the Syrian government in order to facilitate the voluntary return of Iraqis in Syria and Syrians in Iraq and facilitate all procedures related to this issue.
The two sides agreed to exert all efforts that encourage refugees to return to their country and continue communication to remove any artificial obstacles regarding the safe and voluntary return of the displaced.
