Terrorists in Idleb prevent locals from leaving through humanitarian corridors, Vershinin says

New York, SANA- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin affirmed that terrorists in Idleb continue to deprive the locals of humanitarian aid, and they prevent them from leaving through humanitarian corridors and hold them hostage.

Vershinin said during a session of the Security Council on Monday via video: The humanitarian aid does not reach the locals who deserve it in Idleb City. Rather, it is seized by terrorists who blackmail the locals in the city, oppress them in a brutal manner, take them hostage, and deny them access to humanitarian aid.

He criticized the ambiguous words of the United Nations about the aid and its inability to control the matter due to lack of access to northwestern Syria.

Vershinin asserted that the terrorists seize civilians’ food and all humanitarian aid provided to them.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister slammed the attempts of some to beautify the image of terrorists in Syria and present them as an “armed” opposition, saying that “the attempts to cover up terrorists and consider them as an opposition with the help of hypocrites working in the pseudo-humanitarian field by the so-called White Helmets terrorists are unacceptable and deserve to be condemned.”

Vershinin stressed the need to continue fighting terrorists in Syria, referring to the anti-terror measures that the Syrian army is carrying out with the support of the Russian army.

Vershinin added that the humanitarian situation in the Syrian territories which are occupied by some countries is very difficult, indicating that the United States smuggles oil and grains largely from Syria while the Syrians suffer from a severe shortage of these products.

He criticized the representatives of the United States and other Western countries because during the meeting of the UN Security Council regarding the humanitarian situation in Syria, they did not address the great negative impact of unilateral sanctions on the lives of Syrians.
