Syria expresses hope Tunisian presidential elections will help country regain active role

Damascus, SANA, Syria congratulated Tuesday the brotherly country of Tunisia for the success of the presidential elections, expressing hope that these elections would constitute an important step towards Tunisia’s regaining its active role in serving the national and pan-Arab issues.

An official source at Foreign and Expatriates Ministry told SANA that Syria congratulates Tunisian president, government and people for the success of the presidential elections, where the Tunisian people identified their choices overtly.

Tunisia’s High Electoral Commission announced Monday Beji Caid Essebsi has won the presidential election with 55.68 percent of the vote, with a turnout rate of 66,11 percent.

Syria hopes that these elections would constitute an important step towards boosting stability, achieving welfare for the brotherly people of Tunisia, and enable Tunisia to regain its active role in serving the nationalistic and pan-Arab issues, the source added.
