Walid al-Moallem … a fighter diplomat who defended Syria until last breath

Damascus, SANA – Damascus on Monday bid farewell its loved diplomat, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, who has engraved in the memory of Syrians a history of political and patriotic work.

Over the past few days, al-Moallem insisted to participate in the international conference on the return of Syrian Refugees, challenging the disease that clearly appeared on his face to send through his attendance the last call to displaced citizens of Syria to return to their homeland.

In October, he conveyed a message through the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, criticizing the western role of hindering the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland and the Western powers to politicize the refugee issue to achieve political agendas.

The stance of al-Moallem  had pushed the European Union to impose sanctions on him along with figures since 2011 and later US sanctions as a result of revealing the western role in supporting terrorism against Syria as al-Moallem has not stooped to criticize the western policies, describing  the Western officials as a “chorus of liars”.

While delivering Syria speech at the 75th session of the United Nations’ General Assembly, al- Moallem said that “Caesar Act “ has targeted the Syrian people in their livelihood and daily life.

The Presidency of the Cabinet and the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry have mourned the death of Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem who passed away on Monday at dawn.
