Vershinin: Russia will continue to back Syria in its war on terrorism

Moscow, SANA_ Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, reiterated his country’s support for Syria in its war on terrorism, stressing that Russia will not accept the existence of a terrorist hotbeds in the Idleb governorate.

In an interview with the Russian TASS news agency on Saturday, Vershinin indicated that Russia will continue its contacts with the Turkish regime on the situation in Idleb, explaining that “the most important thing in these talks is to avoid civilian casualties and continue the war against terrorists.”

Vershinin pointed out that on September 17, 2018, Russia and the Turkish regime signed an agreement in Sochi on the de-escalation zone in Idleb, adding that the ongoing contacts in Ankara and Moscow are related to the implementation of this agreement.

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed the necessity of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity unconditionally during a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned the regime of Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the consequences of his support for the terrorists’ attacks in Idleb and making provocative statements about the situation there.
