Patriarch John X on occasion of the New Year: We pray for peace in an integrated Syria

Damascus, SANA- A divine mass was held on the occasion of the New Year at the Mariamite Cathedral of Damascus led by His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for the Greek Orthodox.

His Beatitude Patriarch John X said that “we pray for peace in a one and integrated Syria”, asserting that the will of life will not die in it as the Syrian people are committed to their land despite of all the difficulties and the suffering due to the terrorist war waged against their country.

He called on the international community to lift the coercive economic siege which targets the Syrian people and stop the double standards measures which take no consideration to the dignities of the peoples, such as the so-called “Caesar act”.

He added that today’s prayer was also performed for the return of all the kidnapped people, including Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo, Bishop Paul Yazigi, and Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo, Bishop John Ibrahim, kidnapped by terrorist organizations nearly seven years ago.

He also prayed for God to protect Syria, its people, army and leader.
