Al-Moallem discusses with de Mistura applying UN Security Council resolutions relevant to combating terrorism

Damascus, SANA_ Deputy Premier, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem on Sunday discussed with UN Syria Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura outcomes of his tours to several capitals.

What was introduced in the Security Council on the crisis in Syria was also on the table including his initiative on freezing the situation in Aleppo Province and the need to apply UN Security Council resolutions relevant to combating terrorism specially resolutions Nos. 2170 and 2178 .

Resolution No. 2170 provides for confronting ISIS, al-Nusra Front and al-Qaeda branches while resolution No. 2178 emphasizes the need for countries’ commitment to prevent foreign terrorists from entering Syria and Iraq.

The two sides expressed satisfaction over the outcomes of these constructive talks.

The meeting was attended by  Deputy FM Fayssal Mikdad , FM Advisor Ahmad Arnous, Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ambassador Ramzy Ramzy, U.N. Resident Coordinator in Syria Yacoub al Helou and the members of the delegation.

De Mistura arrived on Saturday afternoon in Damascus on his second visit to Syria after he took up his current assignment as the UN envoy to Syria last July.
