Cuban Ambassador: Steadfastness of Syrian and Cuban peoples is triumph for just and humanitarian issues

Damascus, SANA- Over decades, the friendly relations between Syria and Cuba and the bilateral cooperation in different domains have been distinguished by mutual respect and joint work for defending just causes of the two countries’ peoples.

Cuba celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution’s victory on January 1st in a time when it continues its steadfastness in the face of the unjust American siege imposed on it, and it continues its support to the struggle of nations and it respects the noninterference in their internal affairs as it has always stood by Syria in its war against internationally-backed terrorism.

In an interview with SANA, Cuban Ambassador in Damascus Miguel Porto Parga said that the steadfastness of the Syrian and Cuban peoples in the face of threats, unilateral coercive measures and the attempts to export wars and to interfere in the internal affairs of their countries is considered a triumph for the just and humanitarian issues.

The Cuban Ambassador affirmed that cooperation and coordination between the two countries reached high levels, and they have engaged together in real diplomatic battels as Damascus and Havana have had unified stances at the international circles and the regional forums.

He indicated that his country has never hesitated to express its solidarity and support to the Syrian army, people and leadership in the face of international terrorism.

Porto Parga said that his country hasn’t forgotten Syria’s solidarity with it as it has supported the struggle of the Cuban people against imperialism and the economic embargo.

He noted that his country has never closed its embassy in Syria throughout the years of crisis and it has continued to work even in the most difficult times which the country has passed through.

The Ambassador added that the Cuban News Agency Prensa Latina had opened an office for it in Damascus to stand in the face of the hostile media campaigns and to convey that truth about the events which are taking place in Syria.

He said that the year 2018 witnessed an intensive exchange of visits between official delegations from the two countries, adding that the year 2019 is expected to witness an increase in the exchanged visits to include a wide spectrum from the private, trade and cultural sectors.

The Ambassador affirmed that his country will continue to grant scholarships for Syrian students to study medicine at the Cuban universities, and that it will continue to supply Syria with medicines and vaccines, adding that a new shipment of vaccines and medicines will arrive in Syria in the first days of the current year.

He said that the shipments of medicines which arrived in Syria successively included 15 types of Cuban medicines, adding that work is underway for setting the bases of a new agreement in this domain to be signed in 2019.
