Al-Jaafari: Cancelling UNSC session on human rights in Syria, message to western states trying to manipulate council

New York, SANA- Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari stressed that cancelling a session by the Security Council on human rights in Syria is a significant political message to the Western states which are trying to manipulate the Council.

In a statement on Monday after cancelling the session, al-Jaafari said “what took place today is very important from the political dimension as the Security Council appeared as divided regarding the Syrian file on the political level and not on the procedural one .”

He indicated that one of the important points behind the failure of the session is that the mandate of the Security Council doesn’t authorize it to consider the issues of human rights as these issues are related to the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Al-Jaafari added that the attempt of holding a session by the Security Council is a cheap attempt and a huge strategic mistake which the Western states have committed because they have shown the weakness of their calculations as permanent members at the council and this was a defeat for three states together, namely the US, England and France.

He noted that the Western delegation are trying to hold the largest number of meetings on Syria for practicing the political blackmailing on the Syrian Government and its friends at the Security Council.

“What we have witnessed over the past period of their demand to hold sessions on the use of chemical substances and on the Eastern Ghouta, human rights and the refugees reflect the state of trivial and cheap exploitation of the mechanisms of the Security Council to practice pressure on Syria and its friends through claiming that they are preventing the Council from taking action against the Syrian Government,” al-Jaafari said.

He affirmed that the Western states have become desperate of their attempts to use the mechanisms of the Security Council in light of the presence of Syria’s friends at the Council who are aware of what is taking place in the hidden agendas of the Western states.

Al-Jaafari clarified that the goal behind Monday’s session was to exploit what is called High Commissioner for Human Rights which is well-known of its hostile agendas against Syria.
