Bazar for supporting Syrian women’s handmade products in Omayah Hotel

Damascus, SANA – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) kicked off on Saturday a bazar to support Syrian women’s handmade products, with the participation of more than 20 local foundations and international organizations.

This three-day bazar, which is held in Omayah Hotel in Damascus, is part of the the 16-day campaign against violence against women (VAW), and it features the products made by the women who benefited from the workshops organized by civil society associations.

GBV Programs Coordinator in UNFPA Widad Ahmad Babker said that the bazar aims at displaying the products of women who participated in empowerment and enablement programs that the local associations organize in coordination with international organizations, which provided them with training aimed at teaching the women crafts and manual occupations to support themselves financially.

Babker maintained that the bazar is a great chance for marketing women’s products, explaining that the UNFPA is implementing VAW programs with a number of local foundations because responsibilities towards women have increased during the crisis and require more support.
