International Conference for Youths… Overcoming crisis through dialogue

Damascus Countryside, SANA- Participants in the first session of the International Conference for Youths on Monday stressed the necessity of focusing on dialogue, religious diversity and the steadfastness of the Syrian social fabric as the main factors of overcoming the crisis that targets Syria with all of its segments.

The four-day conference, kicked off Sunday at Khan Asaad Basha in old Damascus under the title a “Step for Syria”, is organized by Khatwa (Step) Society with participation of student and media delegations from 39 Arab and foreign countries.

Participants in the first session of the conference, also, underlined the importance of confronting all attempts of some Western media to falsify and target the intellectual culture and the Syrian national identity and to divide the society and sow sedition among its members.

Syria’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Bader Eddin Hassoun said in a speech during the session that Syrians are strong in their identity, cultural and historical heritage which embody their deep-rooted adherence to their land and history.

Mufti Hassoun added that Syria will remain an example of fraternity, love and peace, no matter how enemies try to kill peace in the hearts of its people.

Grand Mufti pointed out that the biased media tried to falsify events in Syria and to hide the basic facts to serve colonial agendas which aim at destroying Syria and igniting wars in the region.

“The strength of the Syrians lies in their identity and their cultural and historical heritage which embodies their deep-rooted adherence to their land and history,” Grand Mufti said.

Coming from different backgrounds, nationalities, languages and habits, the youth taking part in the conference are uniform in their unequivocal message of support for the Syrian people in the war against terrorism.

The Syrian youth hope the conference will give tongue to their message of love and peace and raise the voice for a broader dialogue with the youth.

Ellef Elhamoglu from Turkey says the conference aims to ram home a message that the Turkish government is backing terrorists in Syria unlike the Turkish people who are siding with Syria against terrorists.

Echoing the same message of solidarity, Vadim Artovov, a journalist from Russia, said Western media is misleading public opinion about the situation in Syria, calling for visiting it to have a first-hand look into the situation on the ground.

Asked why she is still in Syria during these tough times, Sukaina Nasrallah, from Pakistan who is studying at Damascus University, says her stay in Syria is a token of solidarity with its “peace loving people.”
