Prime Minister, Al-Baath Regional Leadership blame ISIS atrocities against Palmyra residents on the countries supporting terrorism

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi held the countries backing terrorism responsible for the barbaric atrocities which the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization committed against the residents of Palmyra city in Homs.

Local reports from the city, which is also known as Tadmur, said ISIS terrorists have slaughtered and mutilated at least 400 civilians, including children, women and elderly people and prevented thousands of others from leaving the city.

The atrocities followed an assault which ISIS started days ago against the city, which is home to very important ancient ruins that are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Al-Halaqi cited Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and some Western states as being on top of the countries providing financial and military support to the terrorist organization, including ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra.

He called on the international community and the humanitarian organizations to pressure the governments backing terrorism into stopping their support.

The Regional Leadership for al-Baath Arab Socialist Party also condemned the crime, adding that the countries that are supporting and funding the terrorists are responsible for it.
The regional Leadership said such systematic crimes would not have taken place should the international community had shoulder its responsibilities in countering this global threat.
