UN official: Our teams are in Lattakia to assess needs following the wildfires

New York, SANA – UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Najat Rochdi announced Monday that UN teams are present on ground in Lattakia to assess needs following the devastating wildfires, and ready to offer support for the population.

“Latakia is witnessing devastating forest fires that affected dozens of villages, and led to the destruction of agricultural crops, the displacement of many families, and the loss of sources of livelihood”, Rochdi tweeted on the “X” platform.

She added that United Nations teams are present in the field to assess needs, and offer support to the population in coordination with local authorities.

The UN official expressed her appreciation for the courage of the firefighters, the solidarity shown by neighboring countries, and the tireless efforts made by Syrians and local communities to help their neighbors.
