Lebanon and Syria deepen coordination on refugee return and border security

Beirut, SANA- Lebanese Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam reaffirmed on Wednesday his government’s commitment to collaborate with Syria on several key issues, particularly border control and the dignified return of Syrian refugees.

Speaking at a meeting of the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council in Beirut—reported by the Lebanese National News Agency—Salam stated that the government has “launched direct cooperation” with the Syrian side to enhance border security, combat smuggling, and ensure the safe and dignified return of Syrian refugees. He recalled his visit to Damascus on April 14, during which he met with President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani.

In a separate context, Salam noted that Lebanon is navigating a delicate phase amid regional shifts, stressing that the country cannot remain on the sidelines. He emphasized that national recovery cannot be achieved without financial and economic stability.
