Director of al-Ikhbariya T.V. Channel: Launching the channel delayed due to sanctions on Syria

Damascus, SANA- Amidst a commitment to rebuilding a media system capable of addressing and reflecting the people’s concerns, and conveying the true image of Syria to the world, the Syrian News T.V. Channel or (al-Ikhbariya) stands as a model of renewal.

On March 29th, coinciding with the formation of the new Syrian government, the channel began its first official broadcast on social media, lasting nearly five continuous hours.

In a statement to a SANA reporter, the channel’s director, Jamil Srour, explained that the channel was originally scheduled to broadcast on satellite on March 13th to cover events marking the 14th anniversary of the Syrian revolution. However, sanctions imposed on Syria, specifically on the General Organization for Radio and Television, prevented the channel from obtaining a dedicated frequency on the (Nilesat) satellite, which delayed its official launch

Srour highlighted that the channel’s team managed to create a visual identity representing the new Syria despite challenges related to outdated equipment and technical limitations. They exerted great effort to overcome these difficulties and improve some of the technologies.

He noted that all technical and editorial staff at the channel are Syrians, while some consultants from abroad were relied upon to provide their expertise in developing the channel’s work and improving its quality.

Srour emphasized that the channel relies on competence and professional expertise as the fundamental criteria for accepting journalistic and technical staff, excluding those who participated directly in the war of extermination against Syrians.

Srour added that the channel’s news content will be highly dynamic, efficient, and professional, addressing the need for a reliable official source of news amidst the vast amount of falsification, disinformation, and news chaos on social media platforms.

According to Srour, the channel will focus on covering all ongoing events in Syria from a national perspective aligned with the state’s efforts to advance all aspects of life and build a strong, free, dignified, independent country based on a balanced and responsible vision.

Additionally, the channel will offer a variety of programs highlighting political, economic, and living aspects that touch people’s lives and address their problems across the provinces, along with programs dedicated to the world of social media.
