Damascus, Feb. 21 (SANA) Head of the National Authority for Transitional Justice Abdul Basit Abdul Latif discussed with a UN delegation ways to enhance coordination on transitional justice and mechanisms for implementing it on the ground.
During the meeting, held at the authority’s headquarters in Damascus on Saturday, Abdul Latif stressed the importance of coordination and integration between relevant national and international bodies and strengthening joint work to achieve justice and fairness and to build a state based on the rule of law that respects human dignity and human rights.

Members of the UN delegation announced the establishment of a joint working group that includes representatives from the various concerned bodies to serve as a coordination framework for cooperation with the National Authority for Transitional Justice.
The delegation said the team has already begun its work and drafted initial concepts for joint programs, noting that the coming phase will focus on developing the most effective mechanisms for cooperation and implementation in a way that supports efforts related to transitional justice and enhances their effectiveness.
Earlier this month, a delegation from the National Authority for Transitional Justice held a series of meetings in The Hague in the Netherlands from Feb. 9 to 13 to review international best practices in the field of transitional justice and the pursuit of criminals of the former regime who committed crimes, particularly serious violations including the use of chemical weapons.
