Turkish Ambassador Stresses Need to Lift Sanctions on Syria

Washington, SANA- Turkish Ambassador to the United States Sedat Onal stressed the need to lift sanctions imposed on Syria so that the new government can provide public services and security to its people.

“The continuation of these sanctions will constitute a perpetuation of punishing the Syrian people for the crimes committed by the Assad regime,” Anadolu Agency quoted Onal as saying during a conference on US-Turkish relations, organized by the Atlantic Council in Washington. He called on the international community to help the Syrian people establish a functional and inclusive political system.

Onal emphasized the importance of diplomacy, regional stability, and economic cooperation to strengthen the situation in the region and achieve security and peace.
