Damascus, April 6 (SANA) — Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Sunday praised trilateral talks with Syria and Türkiye as a “vital platform” for cooperation, reaffirming Kyiv’s commitment to building international partnerships that support regional stability and global security.
In a post on X following the meeting held in Damascus, which brought together Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Sybiha said the newly established framework would enhance coordination, particularly in security and logistics.
He described Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Damascus and his talks with President Ahmed al-Sharaa as a “landmark moment” in relations among the three countries.
Sybiha said the discussions included an in-depth exchange of views on key issues, stressing that the security and stability of Europe and the Middle East are “organically interconnected,” underscoring the need for closer joint efforts to address current challenges.
He added that logistics, trade security and maritime corridors were high on the agenda, given their critical role in maintaining global supply chains and ensuring food security. Participants agreed on the importance of safeguarding these routes as a shared priority.
The talks also covered broader regional and international developments, as well as prospects for joint initiatives in the security, economic and humanitarian fields. Sybiha said he briefed his Syrian counterpart on the latest developments related to peace efforts and the situation on the ground.
Earlier on Sunday, President Ahmed al-Sharaa received President Zelenskyy at the People’s Palace in Damascus, in the presence of ministerial delegations from both countries and with the participation of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral ties and expand economic cooperation.
Syria and Ukraine signed a joint statement last September to restore diplomatic relations during a meeting between President al-Sharaa and President Zelenskyy in New York on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
