Daraa, Oct 4 (SANA) Daraa’s Agriculture Directorate has launched a campaign to curb encroachments on forest resources ahead of winter, when such violations typically increase, forestry officials said on Sunday.
The Biodiversity Division of the directorate’s Forestry Department distributed awareness leaflets to residents at the automated bakery in Daraa city, highlighting the importance of forest resources and the need to protect them from encroachments.
Biodiversity Division head Hayan Abu Zaid said the campaign, held under the slogan “Trees are life worth protecting,” aims to reach as many members of the local community as possible and promote a culture of protecting trees and rejecting practices that harm forest resources.
Awareness and monitoring measures
Wisam al-Shahadat, head of the Forestry Department, said the campaign seeks to raise awareness of the importance of protecting forests and forested sites, particularly during winter, when encroachments on forest resources typically increase.
The department’s plan includes direct meetings with farmers and residents, awareness seminars for school students and field campaigns aimed at strengthening environmental protection, al-Shahadat said.
Daraa Governorate approved eight main centers in May to combat agricultural and forest fires, while the Forestry Department is implementing a series of monitoring measures to detect violations targeting forested areas across the province.
