Hama, Sep. 29 (SANA) Interior Minister Anas Khattab said Tuesday that the ministry is completing the procedures and preparations needed to launch the new national ID card project, with registration centers expected to be ready to begin receiving applications after the first quarter of 2027.
Speaking to SANA during the opening of two new civil affairs offices in Hama, Khattab said the ministry signed a contract about 20 days ago with a major company specializing in the production of national ID cards.
The minister explained that the ministry expects to be ready after the first quarter of 2027 to begin receiving applications for the new cards.
Khattab said the ministry will soon begin bringing in and supplying the specialized equipment required for the project. In parallel, it will prepare dedicated centers outside civil affairs offices to collect personal data and biometric information and take photographs.
Work is proceeding along several tracks, including staff training, center preparation and completion of the contract with the specialized company, with the aim of fulfilling all project requirements during the coming year.
Earlier on Tuesday, Minister Khattab inaugurated the First and Second Civil Affairs Offices in Hama city and inspected the Civil Affairs Directorate in the governorate, which has undergone comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation in recent months.
