Beijing, Sept. 22 (SANA) The Syrian Embassy in Beijing discussed with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) ways to develop economic and investment cooperation between Syria and China during a meeting attended by members of the Syrian-Chinese Business Council.
Dr. Othman Ghanem, advisor to the Syrian-Chinese Economic Council, told SANA that Monday’s meeting addressed the historical relations between the two countries, Syria’s strategic importance and ways to translate economic cooperation into practical steps.
Ghanem said the two sides agreed to establish a direct communication channel and organize events to introduce Syria’s economic and investment environment to Chinese companies, research centers and business representatives.
The discussions also included preparations for business forums and joint economic events during the coming period.
Expanding business links
Ghanem said the meeting addressed linking the Syrian-Chinese Business Council with the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), which he said would strengthen communication between business communities and expand areas of economic and trade cooperation.
The talks also covered future training programs, as well as exchanges of visits and delegations aimed at enhancing cooperation and sharing expertise.
Ghanem said the Syrian Embassy in Beijing is working to serve as a bridge between Syria and China, introducing economic and investment opportunities in Syria and encouraging Chinese companies to explore cooperation opportunities.
Syrian-Chinese relations have developed across several areas, particularly economic, trade and investment fields, with both sides working to strengthen communication between economic institutions and expand cooperation channels, according to Syrian officials.
Transport and infrastructure cooperation
The discussions come as Syria and China continue exploring cooperation opportunities in different economic sectors.
On Monday, Minister of Transport Yarub Badr met representatives of two Chinese companies in Damascus to discuss investment opportunities in transport and infrastructure, as well as ways to benefit from Chinese expertise in implementing projects and developing infrastructure.
The Syrian-Chinese Business Council was established by a decision issued by Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar on Nov. 19 last year as part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between Syria and China.
