Beijing, Sept. 8 (SANA) The Syrian Embassy in Beijing held a reception marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Syria and the People’s Republic of China.
The event was attended by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu, senior Chinese officials, heads and members of diplomatic missions, and representatives of the Syrian-Chinese Business Council and economic, academic and cultural institutions.
Mohammad Zakaria Lababidi, chargé d’affaires of the Syrian Embassy in China and minister plenipotentiary, said the anniversary reflected the depth of the historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
He said the occasion provided an opportunity to build on seven decades of friendship and cooperation and open broader prospects for bilateral relations.
Miao reaffirmed China’s commitment to further developing relations with Syria and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding practical cooperation in the economic, investment, development, scientific and cultural sectors to serve the shared interests of the Syrian and Chinese peoples.
China previously reiterated its support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and national unity during Foreign and Expatriates Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani’s meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in China on November 17.
The Chinese side also affirmed that the Syrian government was the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people and expressed support for a Syrian-led political process.
