Syria, World Bank review framework for sustainable housing finance - SANA

Damascus, Sep. 17 (SANA) The International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates hosted Thursday a roundtable meeting with the World Bank technical team to discuss the current state of Syria’s housing and mortgage finance sector and prospects for its development, with the participation of the Minister of Finance and representatives of relevant national institutions.

The meeting explored ways to establish a sustainable and inclusive housing finance system based on market mechanisms and aligned with reconstruction priorities, as well as the needs of returning Syrians and families with limited access to housing finance.

Discussions also covered lending conditions and housing affordability, loan guarantees, property registration, and the legislative and regulatory frameworks governing the sector.

Representatives of the ministries of Finance; Local Administration and Environment; and Public Works and Housing, as well as the Central Bank of Syria, Mortgage Finance Supervisory Authority, General Housing Establishment, Real Estate Bank, and authorities responsible for land registry, surveying and property registration, took part in the roundtable.
