Damascus, Sept. 13 (SANA) One person was killed and 30 others were injured in traffic accidents and fires across Syria over the past 24 hours, the Civil Defense teams at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management said on Sunday.
The Civil Defense said on its Telegram channel that its teams responded to 16 traffic accidents, which resulted in one death and injuries to 30 people. The injured were provided with first aid and transferred to hospitals for treatment, while teams removed the aftermath of the accidents and secured the sites.
A Civil Defense source in Homs said one person was killed and four others injured in a traffic accident caused by a vehicle skid and the collision of three cars following a fuel oil spill on the Homs-Tartous road near the city of Talkalakh.
Civil Defense teams responded to the accident, recovered the body of the deceased, provided first aid to the injured and transferred them to Talkalakh Hospital. They also continued work to remove the effects of the accident and the fuel oil spill to restore traffic and ensure public safety.
The Civil Defense renewed its call on drivers to reduce speed, ensure vehicles are in good technical condition, check brakes and windshield wipers, and avoid distractions while driving, including mobile phone use.
Civil Defense extinguishes 86 fires
Civil Defense teams also responded to 86 fires, including five fires in agricultural fields and crops, while the remaining incidents involved homes, shops, weeds, trees, garbage and electrical wires.
All fires were extinguished and affected sites were cooled, the Civil Defense said, adding that one civilian was injured and received first aid, while the remaining damage was limited to material losses.
The Civil Defense urged residents to avoid lighting fires in forest areas and agricultural fields, throwing cigarette butts or glass containers near roadsides and crops, and burning dry weeds around homes or along roads.
It called for removing dry vegetation through safe methods to reduce fire risks.
The Civil Defense earlier reported that 20 people were injured in 21 traffic accidents on Friday, which were handled by its teams at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management.
