Riyadh, Aug 11 (SANA) Saudi Arabia on Tuesday condemned a statement issued by Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognizing what it called “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan, stressing that the move contradicts international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

In a statement posted on the “X” platform, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the recognition explicitly violates relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which deemed Israel’s imposition of its laws, jurisdiction and administration over the occupied Syrian Golan null and void and without any legal effect.

The ministry stressed that such positions do not contribute to achieving peace, but rather represent a departure from the firmly established international position on the occupied Syrian Golan, reinforce a policy of imposing a fait accompli, and undermine efforts aimed at achieving peace in the region.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry reiterated the Kingdom’s firm position that the Golan is occupied Syrian Arab land, affirming that any measures or decisions aimed at altering its legal status do not create any rights or grant legitimacy to such actions.

It called on the Colombian government to review its position, abide by international law and UN resolutions, and continue supporting efforts aimed at achieving security, stability, and a just and lasting peace in the region.

Earlier on Tuesday, Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the statement issued by Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 10, which recognized what it called “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan, saying that the security justifications cited by Colombia are inconsistent with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
