Damascus, Sept. 8 (SANA) The “Naqel” dialogue workshop opened in Damascus on Tuesday to discuss the development and regulation of app-based transport services and the role of digital technologies in delivering safer, more efficient and sustainable mobility.
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Damascus organized the workshop in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at the Golden Mazzeh Hotel. Transport Minister Yarub Badr and Communications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Salam Haykal attended the event.
Discussions focused on the current state of app-based transport services, challenges facing the sector and proposed solutions to develop and regulate these services in line with the needs of users and relevant stakeholders.
Badr said the ministry was developing the legal and regulatory framework for app-based transport services to keep pace with advances in smart mobility while improving road safety and reducing traffic accidents.
He added that using modern technologies and data could improve the efficiency of transport services and contribute to safer and more sustainable mobility.
Haykal said digital transformation in the transport sector extended beyond launching applications to restructuring the sector digitally and integrating services across government institutions.
He noted that transport is an essential part of citizens’ daily lives and said its digital transformation should be guided by users’ needs and practical experiences.
Haykal also emphasized cooperation among government institutions, entrepreneurs and startups to develop more efficient digital services.
