Damascus, Aug. 25 (SANA) Information Minister Khaled Zaarour said Syria’s removal from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism represents a new step toward overcoming the legacy of isolation and looking toward a future worthy of the Syrian people.
In a post on X on Monday, Zaarour said the removal marks a step on a long path toward restoring Syria’s role as an active and constructive state regionally and internationally.
He said Syria would support stability and a just peace rather than be a source of crises, adding that the media would serve as a bridge for communication and present the image of the new Syria.
Zaarour thanked all those who contributed to the removal of the designation.
Earlier Monday, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued an official update to its sanctions regulations, announcing Syria’s removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism following the completion of legal procedures related to the congressional review without objection.
