Al-Dahhak: Israeli attacks hinder the Syrian state’s efforts to establish security

New York, SANA- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Qusay al-Dahhak, confirmed during an emergency session of the Security Council on the situation in Syria that the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory culminated in targeting the Presidential Palace and the General Staff building in the capital, Damascus, resulting in dozens of casualties among civilians and military personnel.

“The Israeli occupation forces targeted a number of sovereign official buildings in Damascus with several warplanes and drones, including the presidential palace and the headquarters of the General Staff, during peak hours, which resulted in dozens of casualties,” al-Dahhak said, pointing out that the attacks also affected government headquarters in the provinces of Daraa and Sweida, causing severe damage to government facilities and infrastructure.

The representative added: Syria condemns in the strongest terms this blatant Israeli attack, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter, and a blatant infringement on the sovereignty of a UN member state.

The past months have witnessed repeated violations by Israel of the 1974 Disengagement Resolution, represented by violations of the buffer zone and incursions into the territories of the provinces of Quneitra, Daraa, and the Damascus countryside, and committing violations against civilians, in addition to establishing illegal military sites and controlling natural resources, he said explaining that these attacks directly aim to obstruct the efforts of the Syrian state to establish security and stability.

He stressed that Syria categorically rejects all pretexts advanced by the Israeli authorities to justify their aggressive actions, noting that these practices are merely an extension of the occupation’s systematic policies aimed at undermining Syria’s stability.

Al-Dahhak pointed out that the Syrian leadership dealt with these attacks with the utmost wisdom and responsibility, and responded to American, Arab, and Turkish mediation efforts, which helped avoid an open confrontation in the region.

He went on to confirm that Syria will not hesitate to fulfill its duty to protect all its citizens, and that it will continue its tireless efforts to establish the rule of law throughout its national territory and to restrict the possession of weapons to state institutions.

This session was held based on an urgent Syrian request, expressing his gratitude to the Algerian and Somali delegations for their support of this request, Al-Dahhak said , and he also thanked Mr. Khaled Khayari, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, for his comprehensive briefing, and stressed that the meeting comes in light of the dangerous Israeli escalation represented by a series of repeated air attacks during the past days.
