Damascus, Aug. 21 (SANA) Syria’s National Commission for Transitional Justice reaffirmed its commitment to holding accountable those involved in the use of chemical weapons in the 2013 Ghouta massacre.
Commission head Abdul Basit Abdullatif said in a post on X Friday that accountability extends to anyone who used chemical weapons, ordered their use or contributed to carrying out the attacks.
He said truth is a right of the victims, accountability is a responsibility and ending impunity is essential to justice and preventing the recurrence of crimes.
The 2013 chemical attack on Damascus’ Ghouta involved internationally banned sarin gas, killing and injuring thousands of civilians.
Arrests over chemical weapons file
Syria’s Interior Ministry has arrested several senior officers and officials over alleged involvement in the chemical weapons file under the ousted regime, including Maj. Gen. Adnan Abboud Halwa, Col. Ahmad Habib Ali and Brig. Gen. Khardal Ahmad Dioub.
The ministry said it continues to pursue those implicated in crimes to bring them to justice.
