Damascus, Aug. 19 (SANA) Syrian authorities on Wednesday received from Lebanon former Major General Adel Issa, an officer in the army of the ousted regime who is wanted in Syria on charges including murder and torture resulting in death.
Issa, a former commander of the 17th Division who also commanded ground forces in Deir Ezzor until 2016, had been detained by Lebanese authorities under an arrest warrant issued by Lebanon’s public prosecutor.
Syria’s Interior Ministry said on Telegram that coordination for Issa’s extradition was carried out at the request of the Syrian prosecutor general after an arrest warrant in absentia was issued against him by the seventh investigating judge.
The ministry said Issa is accused of premeditated murder, , killing of more than two people and torture resulting in death. He also faces charges related to acts allegedly intended to incite civil war and sectarian violence.
