Dubai, May 1 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Agriculture Amjad Badr met on Friday with Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General at the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), in Dubai to discuss expanding cooperation aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector and addressing the growing challenges of salinity and drought.
The meeting explored mechanisms to bolster joint work in exchanging improved seed varieties and introducing salt‑tolerant forage crops to support sustainable agricultural production, particularly in areas affected by soil salinity and water scarcity.

The two sides also reviewed strategic projects designed to mitigate the impacts of salinity, combat desertification, and reduce the consequences of drought through the adoption of modern agricultural technologies and advanced scientific solutions.
Minister Badr and al -Zaabi stressed the importance of supporting circular‑economy initiatives and strengthening small and medium‑sized rural projects, with a special focus on empowering rural women and enhancing their contribution to food security and sustainable development.
Both parties agreed to activate joint studies and research to develop practical, science‑based solutions to current environmental challenges, in line with efforts to build a flexible agricultural sector capable of adapting to climate change and transforming environmental pressures into sustainable development opportunities.
