Damascus, Aug. 15 (SANA) Direct flights between Berlin and Damascus resumed on Saturday after a nearly 14-year interruption, with the first Sundair flight arriving at Damascus International Airport.

Syria’s chargé d’affaires in Berlin, Mohammad Baraa Shukri, took part in activities marking the resumption of the route, as part of efforts to strengthen air links between Syria and Germany and expand the network of destinations served by Syrian airports.

The resumption comes as Syria seeks to enhance international air connectivity and develop air transport services linking Syrian airports with destinations abroad.

Omar Hosari, director general of the Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority, said direct scheduled flights between Cologne, Germany, and Deir Ezzor are set to begin on September 1, with German carrier LEAV Aviation operating one flight per week.

Syria and Germany signed a final air transport agreement at the Conference Palace in Damascus on July 16, paving the way for the resumption of flights between the two countries.
