Syrian-Turkish talks in Mersin to boost trade and develop ports

Ankara, Aug. 15 (SANA) A delegation from the Syrian General Authority of Ports and Customs, headed by Qutaiba Badawi, held talks with officials in the Turkish province of Mersin, led by Governor Atila Toros.

The discussions focused on leveraging Türkiye ‘s successful experiences in developing free zones, enhancing their role in attracting investments, and boosting bilateral trade exchange.

In a statement published on its Telegram channel on Friday, the Authority explained that the delegation’s official visit to Mersin included a tour to the province’s port. During the tour, members of the delegation reviewed operational and management mechanisms, cargo and container handling systems, logistics services, and the technologies used to regulate ship and cargo traffic.

They also inspected the infrastructure and equipment that contribute to improving operational efficiency and accelerating maritime trade.

The visit also included a tour to the Mersin Free Zone to review operational mechanisms, services provided to investors, and the organization of commercial, industrial, and logistical activities. The delegation explored ways to benefit from the Turkish experience in developing free zones and attracting investment.

The delegation also met with a number of Syrian and Turkish merchants and businesspeople. They discussed the current state of trade exchange between the two countries, available investment opportunities, ways to facilitate the movement of goods, and means to strengthen partnerships between the two business communities.

On July 22nd, a delegation from the General Authority of Ports and Customs held extensive talks with Turkish Trade Minister Omar Bolat in the capital, Ankara. The meeting, attended by Fadi Al-Qasim, Chargé d’Affaires at the Syrian Embassy, addressed the state of economic and trade relations between the two countries and areas of joint cooperation.
