Daraa, July 16 (SANA) Israeli occupation forces opened machine-gun fire toward residential areas in the village of Ma’ariya in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, on Thursday, according to local residents.
Residents told SANA’s reporter in Daraa that the gunfire originated from the Al-Jazira military outpost and caused no casualties or property damage, but heightened fear and tension among the village’s residents.
The incident came two days after Israeli occupation forces entered Ma’ariya, damaging civilian property during the incursion. Residents later reblocked the road that the forces had opened while operating in the village.
Israel continues to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through repeated incursions into southern Syria, as well as raids, arrests, land bulldozing and artillery shelling.
Syria has repeatedly called for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from its territory, stressing that all measures taken by Israel are null and void under international law. Damascus has also urged the international community to uphold its responsibilities, halt Israeli violations and ensure Israel’s full withdrawal from southern Syria.
