Damascus, July 13 (SANA) The Syrian Interior Ministry said on Monday that ongoing investigations had found members of a recently detained ISIS cell responsible for the July 7 terrorist bombings near the Ministry of Tourism in Damascus, citing surveillance footage and the suspects’ confessions.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement posted on its Telegram channel the investigation found the detainees — Diaa Shaker Al-Qassem, Abdullah Younis Al-Jubouri and Mohammad Asaad Mohammad — were members of ISIS and had been involved in planning terrorist attacks aimed at undermining security, destabilizing the country and spreading fear among civilians.
According to the ministry, investigators established the three men’s responsibility for the July 7 bombing through surveillance footage analysis and the suspects’ confessions.
The ministry said investigations were continuing to identify all individuals involved in or who assisted the cell before referring them to the competent judicial authorities for legal proceedings.
It added that the Interior Ministry would take firm action against anyone found to have participated in terrorist activities, whether through planning, financing, support or direct involvement.
Two explosions struck near the Ministry of Tourism in Damascus on July 7, killing one person and injuring 36 others. The Interior Ministry said at the time that Internal Security forces had discovered two improvised explosive devices during field operations and that both devices detonated while specialized teams were preparing to defuse them.
