Damascus, Aug. 30 (SANA) Syria and Egypt discussed restoring direct flights between the two countries as part of efforts to strengthen civil aviation cooperation and air connectivity.
The talks brought together Omar Hosari, head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport (GACA), and an Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority delegation led by Yasser Mohamed Abdel Halim Mohamed, head of the Central Administration for Aviation Security.
GACA said the meeting focused on restoring air links to facilitate passenger travel, boost air traffic and strengthen bilateral relations.
Hosari said the Egyptian delegation would visit Damascus and Aleppo international airports to review aviation security and safety measures, operational procedures, infrastructure, facilities and passenger services.
He said Syria was working to rebuild and expand its regional and international air network, describing Egypt as an important link because of the countries’ longstanding historical, social and economic ties.
The talks follow a July 12 meeting between Hosari and Egypt’s chargé d’affaires in Damascus, Mohamed el-Feki, which also addressed civil aviation cooperation and restoring air links.
