Damascus, July 9 (SANA) In a historic step that reflects Syria’s restoration of its international position, the Syrian Arab Republic today regained its full rights and privileges in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, with an unprecedented consensus by member states, Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani said on Thursday.

“We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to our mission in The Hague and to all member states for this support, and we extend special thanks and gratitude to the sisterly State of Qatar for its pivotal role, valued efforts and continued support to ensure the achievement of this accomplishment,” al-Shaibani added in a post on X.

The Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) adopted the draft decision on restoring Syria’s rights and privileges under the Chemical Weapons Convention.
