Damascus, June 26 (SANA) Syrian customs officials held talks with a French delegation on Thursday focused on expanding technical and economic cooperation and supporting ongoing customs reforms, according to Syria’s General Authority for Borders and Customs (GABC).
The French delegation, led by chargé d’affaires Jean-Baptiste Faivre and customs attaché Laurent Pasquier, met with the head of the authority, Qutaiba Badawi, in Damascus.
Syrian officials presented an overview of the customs authority’s structure, responsibilities and recent reform efforts, including measures to improve regulatory procedures and streamline customs operations.
Discussions also covered plans to standardize customs tariffs across countries and improve the collection of duties, which Syrian officials said would enhance transparency, fairness and predictability in the trade environment.
The French side expressed readiness to provide technical assistance, training and capacity-building support to strengthen customs operations and staff performance.
Both sides agreed to work toward a memorandum of understanding between Syrian and French customs authorities covering information exchange, technical cooperation and capacity development.
